Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Morning:

  • Depart Nairobi early for the 4-5 hour scenic drive to Amboseli National Park. Along the way, you’ll pass through charming Kenyan landscapes, with glimpses of rural villages and rolling plains.
  • Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in Amboseli in time for lunch.

Afternoon:

  • After settling in, head out for your first game drive. Amboseli is renowned for its enormous herds of elephants, often seen against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Spot other wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebras, and hyenas.

Evening:

  • Return to your lodge for a delicious dinner and relaxation. Enjoy the quiet ambiance of the African wilderness as the sun sets over the savannah.

Day 2: Full Day in Amboseli National Park

Morning:

  • Begin your day with an early morning game drive, the best time to spot predators like lions and cheetahs as they hunt. The sunrise over the savannah, with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background, is a sight to behold.
  • Visit the Marshes Viewing Spot, where you can see elephants, buffalo, hippos, and waterbirds like pelicans and geese thriving in the park’s wetlands.

Mid-Morning:

  • Head to Observation Hill, a unique vantage point offering aerial views of the park. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping vistas of elephant herds, lush wetlands, and the surrounding savannah.

Afternoon:

  • After lunch, enjoy a relaxed afternoon game drive, focusing on areas you may have missed earlier. Amboseli is home to the Big Five, so keep an eye out for rhinos, buffalo, and elusive leopards.
  • Visit a Maasai village to experience the rich culture of the Maasai people. Learn about their traditional way of life, colorful clothing, and intricate beadwork.

Evening:

  • Return to your lodge for a leisurely dinner and a peaceful evening.

Day 3: Amboseli to Nairobi – Breakfast and Checkout

Our final day in the park and we want to squeeze in all the game viewing we can. We’ll start on a pre-breakfast safari and see who we can check off our list. Don’t forget to look for the smaller animals here like hyenas, foxes, jackals and monkeys.

There’s also a colorful variety of rich birdlife in the park – pelican, kingfisher, egret and heron are found near the park’s marshes and lakes.

We’ll enjoy one more Amboseli breakfast, with views of great Kilimanjaro and then a final game drive as we exit the reserve.

  • If time permits, you can explore Nairobi’s attractions, such as the Giraffe Centre or the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, before heading to your next destination.
